The Scottish Government have scrapped protections that limited rent increases to 12%. Instead, the only legal protection tenants have against rent hikes is the 'rent adjudication process'. This process compares your rent hike against "open market rents", and effectively says that as long as all of your neighbours are being ripped off, you can be ripped off too.
It is a disgraceful betrayal of tenants, and underlines how desperately Scotland needs proper, effective rent controls.
